mms beginning band
information and form
Montross Middle School is offering beginning band to rising 6th grade students. This is a great opportunity for your child to learn to play an instrument! No prior instrumental experience is necessary. Over the course of the school year, your student will learn instrumental technique and the basics of reading music. He or she will also perform in evening concerts at MMS. Joining band does require acquiring an instrument for your child to play. We have limited instruments available to rent out from the school ($50/school year). School instruments can be reserved in August. An instrument rental company will come to MMS band room to rent instruments in August or September and sell supplies to new band students. Rentals are approximately $40 per month (alto saxophones are around $45).
Please understand that joining band entails a commitment on your student’s part to work hard and practice, and on your part as a parent to encourage practice, and to bring your child to required after-school concerts (we will have 3 of these). If you would like for your child to be a part of the band program, please complete the form below and return it to Mr. Passaretti.
